Problems Often Experienced in Car Steering
The steering wheel is a vital component in a car. From here the vehicle speed is controlled. Therefore, the car steering wheel must always be in prime condition.
All vehicle components should always be maintained. However, the car steering wheel should be one of the priorities for maintenance. It's not strange because the car is controlled via the steering wheel.
If the steering is damaged, the impact is quite big. Not only is car control compromised, safety is at stake. For example, if there is a problem with the steering wheel, the potential for an accident is very large because the car cannot be controlled properly.
Therefore, various problems with the car steering wheel must be known. Understanding it will make it easier to anticipate so that it doesn't happen again or take appropriate corrective steps.
â— Steering Wheel Points To One Side
Often the car steering wheel tilts to one side. The steering wheel seems to pull in one particular direction only. This is especially felt when the car is driven straight. The car will definitely move in that direction.
Of course this is very disturbing. The car becomes difficult to control properly. However, it's not just annoying, this interference is also dangerous for safety because car control is not optimal.
The triggers for this problem are varied. However, the easiest thing to check is the condition of the tires. Look to see if the tire has a lump or not. Then check the pressure and wear. These things can make the car steering wheel tilt to one side.
Apart from tires, car wheel alignment problems can also cause the steering wheel to move to one side. As it is used, it is possible that some parts of the wheel tilt adjustment bolt may shift due to the vibrations received. This shift in the wheel geometry angle can make the car steering wheel tilt to one side. Spooring could be the solution.
In addition to tires and wheel alignment, damage to steering components and the power steering system can trigger the steering wheel to move to one side. You have to take it to a repair shop to get optimal repairs.
â— Car Steering Wheel Vibrates and Squeaks
A car steering wheel that feels vibrating is also a common occurrence. When that happens, driving a vehicle will not be comfortable. There was concern that something would go wrong with the car.
So, if you experience this, immediately check it. First look at the condition of the steering wheel when the car is idling. Pay attention to whether there is a vibration in the steering wheel when the car is started, making it make a sound. If there is, then there may be a problem with the engine mounting.
If there is a problem with the engine mounting, the car's undercarriage area is often disturbed. Pay attention to whether the car vibrates every 100 meters. Also see if the car does not drive straight when the steering wheel is released. Immediately carry out balancing if these things happen.
In addition, if the steering wheel makes noise, there is usually an air bubble problem in the hydraulic system. Then, maybe the power steering pump is starting to have problems. Apart from that, damage to the pump drive belt and the bearing on the pump pulley could also be the cause.
Try to check the fluid level and belt condition first. If everything is fine, then there may be a problem with the pump.
Also pay attention to the power steering fluid level. If it's too low, Air bubbles can enter the hydraulic system. This also triggers noises in the steering wheel.
â— Steering Feels Heavy
Often the steering wheel suddenly feels heavy. To perform maneuvers such as turning, you have to expend extra energy. Of course this really interferes with driving comfort. In fact, safety is at stake because controlling the car becomes more difficult.
For this reason, drivers must immediately check if the car's steering wheel feels heavy. Look at the power steering oil first. If it is lacking, then the lubrication there is not optimal. There is not enough hydraulic pressure to lighten the steering wheel rotation.
However, if the power steering fluid turns out to be sufficient, continue checking the belt or power steering fan. If the belt is damaged, the steering wheel will feel heavy because there is nothing to move the oil pump so lubrication will not work properly.
Also check the steering rack. This is the component that connects the steering wheel to the undercarriage of the car. Its presence functions to maintain stability and facilitate steering maneuvers.
Over time, the steering rack can become loose or worn. This is due to various impacts received when the car is running. For example, due to passing through a hole while speeding. If it is damaged, the steering rack must be replaced so that the steering feels light again.
