Avoid excessive loads so that your car tires last longer
Everyone definitely wants their car tires to last longer. However, don't expect car tires to last long if the car is often used to carry excessive loads.
The lifespan of car tires varies. Frequency of use, road conditions and tire pressure have an influence. Likewise with the load carried by the car. It turns out that this also affects tire durability.
If the car is often carried with excessive loads, the tire life will definitely be shorter. Excessive load causes the pressure received by the tire to be greater than its capacity.
If this happens frequently, the tires will gradually become damaged because their structure will be disrupted. Moreover, if the car is used with excessive loads on roads in poor condition. The faster tire damage occurs.
The potential for tire damage will be greater if you carry heavy loads and neglect to pay attention to the correct tire pressure. Not only are they damaged, tires are prone to bursting when they hit a hole. Very dangerous.
This fact shows that excessive load does not only cause tires to become damaged quickly. Driving safety factors are also affected. Here's another example. An overloaded car will definitely make it difficult to control. Braking also doesn't work optimally. As a result, the risk of having an accident is quite large.
Therefore, drivers must be able to maintain the load carried by their vehicles according to standards. To find out, the tire's ability to withstand loads can be seen in two ways, namely looking at the tire's load index and the car's maximum carrying capacity.
The load index on a tire is an index that shows the maximum load limit that the tire can support. The indicator is a number printed on the side of the tire. You can easily look at the car tires to find out the load index.
For example, Dunlop uses the lowest load index number 76 and the highest 160. Each different number shows the tire's ability to withstand a certain load.
For example, a load index of 76 on Dunlop tires shows a load tolerance of up to 400 kg. Then a load index of 160 shows the tire's ability to withstand a weight of up to 4,500 kg.
CALCULATE THE VEHICLE'S CARRIAGE CAPABILITIES
In addition to seeing the load index, the driver can also see the maximum load of the vehicle. This is also easy to find in the car's manual. There the gross load weight and empty load of the vehicle are often mentioned.
From there, the driver will know the safe limit of load borne by the car. This is often referred to as payload or vehicle carrying capacity.
To find out, the driver just needs to subtract the gross weight of the vehicle from the empty weight of the vehicle. The result is the maximum amount in kilograms that can be carried by a car.
If the payload is known, the driver can estimate whether the load the car is carrying is excessive or not. Try to count how many passengers are in the car. Then, estimate additional burdens such as various items carried. Add them all up to find out the load carried.
If it is still below the payload, it means the car load is below tolerance. It's different if it's already above the payload. The load must be reduced either by abandoning luggage or reducing passengers.
Pay attention to this so that the tires last longer. Not only that, driving safety is still guaranteed if the load carried is according to standards.
