Take advantage of the TPMS feature so that your tires are always in top condition
As a component that supports driving comfort and safety, tires must always be in prime condition. To ensure this, tire pressure must always be as recommended. Just take advantage of the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) to detect tire pressure.
TPMS is a system for detecting air pressure in tires. Using sensors in each tire, TPMS is able to show the amount of air pressure. Later, this device can warn the driver if tires are found to have incorrect pressure.
You need to be aware that tire pressure must always comply with standards. Lack of pressure will be very dangerous. Tires are prone to breaking when they hit bumpy surfaces. Meanwhile, if the pressure is excessive, the tire will be too hard, disturbing comfort. Apart from that, the tire's reliability in treading on the road surface is also reduced.
This risk can be minimized by having a TPMS in the car. When there is an inappropriate tire pressure, TPMS will give a warning by turning on the indicator light on the car dashboard.
Currently there are two types of TPMS, namely TPMS Direct and TPMS Indirect. Both have differences in obtaining data to measure tire pressure. However, even though they are different, TPMS Direct and TPMS Indirect are still able to provide warnings when there is a pressure mismatch that has the potential to endanger driving safety.
DIFFERENCES IN TPMS TYPES
TPMS Indirect works by relying on wheel speed sensors used by the anti-lock brake system. This sensor measures the speed of each wheel which can be used by the on-board computer system to compare the data for each wheel.
From there, the computer can determine the relative size of the tires. So, when the tire spins, the computer can determine that there is a problem with the tire. Furthermore, the system will immediately warn the driver to carry out a check.
TPMS Indirect is relatively cheaper than TPMS Direct. However, the level of accuracy is not good. It could be that the measurements are not accurate for some types of tire sizes. Additionally, when the tires are rotated or inflated, the TPMS Indirect must be reset.
Meanwhile, TPMS Direct tends to be more practical. This system uses pressure monitoring sensors inside each tire to monitor the pressure level. In fact, in some types, TPMD Direct can even detect tire temperature. When it finds incorrect tire pressure, TPMS Direct will immediately alert the driver.
However, this system tends to be more expensive than Indirect TPMS. In addition, installation requires the assistance of a competent technician. However, in general, the detection accuracy is better. Apart from that, TPMS Direct also requires minimal maintenance because it does not need to be reset after the tires are rotated or filled.
The driver can choose one of the two types of TPMS. Take advantage of it so that the tire pressure is always as recommended. However, choose quality tires such as Dunlop tires. Because, Dunlop tires are able to provide tires with optimal performance to support driving safety.
