Shinobi Dunlop SP Sport LM705 Technology Moves Like a Ninja

Silent like a Ninja in action, Dunlop SP Sport LM705 technology is embedded in the latest tires offered by Surindo.

Ninja or Shinobi in Japanese, literally means ‘a person trained in the art of Ninjutsu (the art of silent movement) moving in secret’. 

Could also be called a spy in feudal Japan. And according to some Ninjutsu observers, a person's skill is to infiltrate without a sound, aka silently.

Interestingly, what does the Shinobi Technology in the new Dunlop SP Sport LM705 tires have to do with the skills of Ninjas or Shinobi? It turns out that Shinobi Technology in its newest Dunlop tire product aims to increase comfort and quietness in driving.

“Shinobi Technology is Dunlop's new Technology in terms of design  tires (profile and tread pattern), which can make the sidewall and tread more effective in reducing tire vibrations, especially on bumpy roads. This increases comfort and quietness," he said. explained Darius, Chief New Product Development Staff of PT Sumi Rubber Indonesia (Surindo).

Continued Darius, the SP Sport LM705 will replace the previous tire replacement model which was also successful, namely the SP Sport LM704. So as a development of the previous product, the SP Sport LM705 is embedded with Shinobi technology as an ‘improvement’ drastically to improve tire performance in various road conditions.

“These various improvement steps are to produce tire products that not only provide optimal comfort and better safety when driving, but also come with the best price offer,” added Tomonori Shiomi, Sales and Marketing Director of PT Surindo, shortly after the official launch of the Dunlop SP Sport LM705.

Shinobi Technology

The most significant difference from the previous model, including its closest competitors, is the application of the latest technology labeled ‘Shinobi’ which is characterized by the design of the sidewall profile and tire tread which tends to be rounded.

“With the application of Shinobi technology, the movement of the tire sidewall becomes flexible, so that the sidewall has a new profile that is more flexible and effectively absorbs impact energy from the road surface. A new tread pattern with a larger number of blocks and a more rounded tire tread, useful for absorbing shocks and absorbing vibrations.

“We have made various developments, including tire tread designs with smaller and more blocks, improvements to the tire walls and material choices which are now better than the previous generation,” said Hokuto Kubo, Tire Designer for Sumitomo Rubber Industries and the key figure behind the emergence of the Dunlop SP Sport LM705.

SP Sport LM705 has a 16% better level of vibration dampening through waves, road noise and tread pattern noise are also 15% better than the SP Sport LM704 model. Of course, the development of this tire was carried out in Japan, by taking samples of road conditions in Indonesia.

“All of these developments not only improve performance, such as when maintaining stability in the change line at high speeds, but also increase the tire's ability to reduce vibration and noise, thereby increasing the quietness of the cabin even on uneven roads,” added Kubo.

Good news for Dunlop customers, even though the Dunlop SP Sport LM705 is equipped with advanced technology, the selling price is claimed to be almost the same as the SP Sport LM704 type (its predecessor). Not only that, the tires that were officially marketed in early March 2020 have 32 types of sizes. Available in sizes from 14 inches to 18 inches.
