Getting around traffic jams on inclines for automatic cars
Driving a car with an automatic transmission seems easy. The driver only needs to step on the gas or brake pedal. However, it still requires special skills when doing it. One of them is when facing traffic jams on an uphill road.
Traffic jams can happen anywhere, no matter the place. Sometimes traffic jams are experienced on inclines. Of course this is a hassle for every driver.
Even automatic car users are the same. Even though you don't need to step on the clutch like in a manual car, you still need skill in getting around traffic jams on hills. It is important to master this ability so that the car continues to drive well and is not damaged.
Yes, that's right. If you get around traffic jams on an incline incorrectly, your automatic car is prone to damage. Usually the damage starts from overheating
When the engine overheats, the life of the transmission oil will be much shorter than normal conditions. This will have an impact on reducing the lubricating power of the components in the transmission gearbox. If that happens, the risk of excessive friction causing components to wear quickly will increase.
Therefore, do not underestimate driving maneuvers on uphill roads. Automatic car drivers must be able to get around traffic jams on hills correctly.
The way to do this is not complicated. When stuck in traffic on an incline, automatic car drivers must immediately take their foot off the gas pedal. As soon as possible shift the transmission gear to neutral.
This maneuver can actually make the car go backwards. However, this can be overcome by pressing the brake when releasing your foot from the gas pedal. The car will not go down and remains stable.
You can also activate the handbrake. This method will also keep the car's position stable even if it is on an uphill road.
This step is more appropriate than continuing to press the gas pedal. If you keep doing this, the car engine speed tends to increase. This is indicated by the sound of the car engine roaring.
Increasing engine speed will ultimately result in a greater flow of transmission oil pressure because it adjusts the engine speed. In fact, the components inside the gearbox are in static condition. This results in excess pressure being held. This is what can trigger overheating.
Therefore, avoid stepping on the gas pedal when stuck on an incline. It's better to use the brake or handbrake to be safe.
TRICKS TO DRIVE SMOOTHLY
Cars that reverse can occur when they are stuck in traffic on an incline. This is something drivers should avoid because their car could collide with another car. So, there are quite a few who don't want to experience the slightest setback at all. Apart from that, quite a few people want to be ready to go fast when traffic starts moving.
If the car is equipped with the Hill Start Assist feature, this is not a problem. The car will not reverse and will continue as usual. However, if there isn't one, the driver can still get around this by putting the transmission gear into position D. However, when doing so, make sure you don't press the gas pedal.
Even though the transmission is in position D, the car engine will remain idle as long as the gas is not stepped on. The condition is the same as when the car's transmission is in neutral.
When the engine is idling, the pressure generated by the transmission oil flow is low. This will not force the transmission mechanics to move. As a result, there is no excess pressure like when the gas pedal is pressed. That's what keeps the car engine safe without any risk of overheating.
Accompany this maneuver by pressing the brake or activating the handbrake. Then, when traffic starts to move, the driver can slowly release the brake. The car will drive forward and not move backwards.
Practice this trick when you are stuck in traffic on an incline. An automatic car will remain safe and drive smoothly.
